Just discovered that @rachelwithers@aus.social has been suspended.

I'm confident that this is because she has repeatedly broken their moderation rule that all posts about politics should come with a content warning. A policy that I accepted when I first moved to aus.social from the bird site, but which looks increasingly ridiculous, petty and arbitrary in its application.
This is actually a problem for #mastodon generally - if an instance enforces such restrictions on the free discussion of #politics that creates a negative impression of the platform. Yes, @rachelwithers can move to another instance but I ask: should she have to?

To answer “well if that’s what the majority of other users on the instance want” is just majoritarianism at best. And that majority may not, in fact exist - it may in fact be a majority imagined by a vocal minority asserting that position on behalf of a “silent majority”.

Going to stop there. I’ve probably put too much thought into this already, to too little effect. I’ve been having a bad run of days like this.
