Hey folks, I've seen a lot of talk going around about adblockers lately. I worked in the advertising technology and security industry for five years and the one core piece of advice I have is:
Holy fuck never give an advertiser your data. You cannot believe how bad it is. Don't. I run three layers of ad block protection and I'd run more if it was feasible. If you want to support creators give them money.
“We will be in this peculiar situation where people who have been here for 235 years will have rejected the request for recognition by people who have been here for 60,000 years,”
I love good news. This, this is good news.
A good system that passively makes fresh water from seawater without power or exhaust or byproducts, and sitting in the sun drives it. Scalable from family to community, etc.
"Cheaper than tap water"
Rain is even cheaper than that, breaking rain is big mistake. Rainstorms that destroy nations, or just bridges and highways, or rains no longer bringing enough water ---
We have to build all the energy needed to end carbon fuels
Far Enough?

“The new ‘inverse vaccine’ removes the immune system’s memory of one molecule. While such immune memory erasure would be unwanted for infectious diseases, it can stop autoimmune reactions like those seen in multiple sclerosis, type I diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, or Crohn’s disease, in which the immune system attacks a person’s healthy tissues.”
Following on from Jacinta’s shambolic responses, Sky’s Chris Kenny raises a point which most of the media has been avoiding - why can’t the ABC call it out like this? #VoteYes
An approximation of conversions I had with my friend.
Them: So how are you going to get your music out there?
Me: I’m going to share it on Mastodon.
Them: And people will boost it?
Me: No. Well, yeah, but not much. It’ll mostly just be seen by those who’ve followed me.
Them: How many people are going to just “follow” some random unknown song writer from the backwaters of Queensland?
Me: Very few.
Them: So… how are you going to build an audience of followers if people generally don’t follow musicians or share music?
Me: I’m going to share jokes. People love jokes. And they love sharing jokes. And, importantly, they love a joker. Oh, and weird facts. People love weird facts too.
Them: You’re not a comedian.
Me: No, but I can try to make people smile. Which is what I’m trying to do with my music anyway. That the real goal. As long as I’m making people smile, I’m succeeding.
A few months later:
Them: How’s the Mastodon thing going?
Me: Amazing! People love the jokes and lots of people are following!
Them: And are people listening to your music?
Me: Music is actually being boosted and people are leaving positive comments. I think plays are like two thousand percent from last year?
Them: Nice! That’ll make like what, a dollar fifty?
Me: Not that much! [lol] I will say though, I have met some of the most amazing, talented, thoughtful, and caring people I have ever had the privilege of knowing. They’ve been supportive, insightful, and genuinely inspiring.

428 – Tightening the Grip
Five years of fighting. The conquest of England wasn’t something that was resolved on a single day in October of 1066. William had been fighting this thing for five years… and they were long years. And I’m pretty sure that’s why his crown was reminiscent of the Byzantine style William didn’t want to be King, just as he certainly didn’t want to be Duke.
